Written by Studio Gang and published by Phaidon, a new monograph titled Studio Gang: Architecture captures the creative sensibility and trajectory of an architecture that addresses the most urgent environmental and social challenges of our time. The book delves into 25 of the Studio’s projects that span scale and typology worldwide, from re-imagining cultural institutions to expanding the canon of skyscraper design, exhibiting the practice’s focus on ideas over a trademark aesthetic style.

Organized into six thematic chapters—Rhythm, Flow, Toward Terrestrial, Up in the Canopy, What Are You Made Of?, and Beyond TransparentStudio Gang: Architecture is filled with sketches, drawings, photographs, and renderings that reveal the interdisciplinary breadth of the practice. Short essays by Jeanne Gang open each of the chapters, delving into the resonant concepts that connect the works.

In addition to the chapter openers, there is an original introduction by Jeanne Gang and an interview between Gang and Ann Lui, founding partner of Future Firm and Visiting Assistant Professor of Architecture at the University of Michigan’s Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. Additionally, Studio Gang: Architecture includes an opening essay from Mohsen Mostafavi, Alexander and Victoria Wiley Professor of Design and former dean at the Harvard Graduate School of Design.

“We have been very busy making architecture, in this broad sense, for the past twenty years, but every so often it is important to pause and reflect on the work that has been made and enable it to be seen. This book provides that opportunity. It allows us to take a moment to celebrate, as each building is a triumph in a way, the result of hard work and collaboration with our clients and colleagues. It also gives us a platform to inspire others—to let them know it is possible to accomplish bold, beautiful things with deep ambitions. Finally, it asks us to consider and articulate the work anew.”
